Table and chairs removal is usually a set rather than a single piece: a dining table and four, six or eight chairs, a kitchen table with a bench, or a desk and the office chair that went with it. Send a photo of the whole set where it stands, with a line about the room and the route to the door, and we send back one fixed price that covers the lot. Two people carry it out and load it, and you pay when the last chair is on the van.

The table is the awkward piece. A solid oak table can weigh as much as a wardrobe, a marble or granite top is heavier still and cracks if it is flexed, and an extending table has a mechanism underneath that shifts as it is lifted. Glass tops come out separately and are carried upright. The crew takes the legs off where that is the safest route and carries the top on its edge through the door. Chairs are light but bulky, so they go out two at a time. If you are clearing an office rather than a kitchen, the office furniture removal page covers desks and chairs by the dozen.

Dining sets go when a kitchen is refitted, a house is sold or an open-plan room is rearranged, and often a sideboard or display cabinet goes at the same time. Put it all in the photo and the visit is priced as one job. The council bulky waste collection is the alternative, booked ahead with the table and chairs left outside on a set day, and it often limits how many items you can put out. We take it from the room and offer same-day or next-day collection wherever possible.

Furniture Removal is an upper tier waste carrier, licence CBDU526130, registered with the Environment Agency. Dining sets are the furniture most likely to be reused, because a solid table with four matching chairs still has a long life in it, so we pass sound sets on before anything else. Tables and chairs that are past it go to a licensed waste transfer station where the timber, the steel chair frames and the glass are recovered. For what a set costs to shift, and why, read what affects the cost of furniture removal.

How a table and chairs collection works

  1. Send a photo

Stand back far enough to get the table and every chair in one shot. Tell us what the top is made of and which room it is in.

  2. Get a fixed price

You receive one price covering the table, all the chairs, the carrying and the disposal. A marble top or an extending mechanism is priced from the photo.

  3. Pick a slot

Give us a day that suits and we confirm it by email. Same-day and next-day collection are offered wherever possible.

  4. Pay once the set is loaded

The crew carries the chairs out, then the table, and straps everything in the van. You pay the price you were sent and nothing more.

Why people use us

Licensed to take it away

The licence is CBDU526130, upper tier, held by Furniture Removal and registered with the Environment Agency. Look it up before you book us.

Covered for the stone top

A marble top carried across a tiled kitchen floor is covered by public liability insurance to £5 million and employers' liability to £10 million.

One price for the whole set

Six chairs and a table are quoted as a single job from your photo. The crew does not count chairs at the door and add to the figure.

Reuse comes first

Dining sets are the furniture we most often pass on. 90% of everything we collect is recycled, after 15 years and 500 or more jobs doing it.

Carrying a dining table and chairs out of the house

The chairs go first, two at a time, because they are light and clearing them gives the crew room to work around the table. A table with bolted legs has them taken off, which turns a wide, awkward shape into a flat top and four poles that fit through any door and down any stairs. A table with fixed legs is tipped on its side and walked out on its edge, with one person at each end. Marble and granite tops are lifted off the base and carried flat, never on edge, because stone cracks when it is flexed, and glass tops come off and travel upright between two people. Extending tables have the leaves taken out before the lift so the slides do not run while it is being carried. From a first-floor flat or a dining room up a flight of stairs, the top goes down between the two of them with the legs following in a bundle.

You do not need to dismantle anything. Clear the table of anything on it, take the cushions off the chairs if they are loose, and tell us whether the patio doors open, because they are often the shorter route out of a kitchen or dining room than the hall. If the table has an extending mechanism that jams, leave it as it is and the crew will deal with it. Keep the floor between the table and the door free of rugs that could slide.

Once collected, a sound table and matching chairs are offered for reuse, and dining sets are the furniture that most often finds a second home. Sets that are worn or broken go to a licensed waste transfer station, where solid timber and veneered board are recovered as wood, steel chair frames and table legs go for metal recycling, and glass tops are removed and processed separately. We hold upper tier licence CBDU526130 and can send a waste transfer note.

Table and chairs removal questions

Is a table and six chairs one job or seven?

One job. Put the whole set in the photo and we send one fixed price for the visit. The number of chairs is part of the figure, not an extra counted on the day.

Can you take a solid oak or marble-topped table?

Yes. Heavy tops are what the two-person crew is for. A stone top is lifted off and carried flat, and a solid oak top has its legs taken off where they unbolt. Tell us the material so we allow for the weight.

Will you take just the table, or just the chairs?

Either. Some people keep the table and swap the chairs, or the other way round. Send a photo of what is going and the price covers that alone.

Do you collect desks and office chairs from a home office?

Yes. A desk, a computer desk or a bureau and the office chair that goes with it are collected on this page. For a whole office with several desks and pedestals, see our office furniture removal page.

The dining room is upstairs. Can you get the table down?

Yes. The crew takes the legs off or tips the top on its edge, and two people walk it down with the chairs following. Send a photo of the stairs if there is a turn and we tell you the plan before the day.

Could my dining set go to someone else instead of being scrapped?

Possibly, and this is the type of furniture where it happens most. If the table is sound and the chairs are not broken, we offer the set for reuse first. Anything past that goes for wood, metal and glass recovery at a licensed waste transfer station.
