Furniture disposal and collection is the page for everything that does not have its own. A heavy mirror in a gilt frame, a coffee table with a glass insert, a cot that the child has outgrown, a flat-pack unit that will not survive another move, a hall stand, a nest of tables, a blanket box or a room full of odds and ends after a tenant has left. Send us a photo of whatever it is, say which floor it is on, and we reply with a fixed price for carrying it out and disposing of it.

Whole rooms and whole houses are covered too, as long as it is furniture. A furniture-only house clearance means every wardrobe, bed, table, chair, chest and cabinet in the property, priced from a set of photos as one job and carried out by two people in one or more visits. We have separate services for sofas, mattresses and appliances, so this site is for furniture only. If a single wardrobe or bed frame is the whole job, those pages explain how each one comes out.

Small items are not always simple. A large mirror is carried on edge with the glass covered, a glass coffee table is split into top and base, and a flat-pack piece that was assembled in the room is taken back to panels there, because its cam locks and glued dowels will not take the stairs. A cot is unbolted at the ends and carried as sides and a base. Our guide on how to get rid of old furniture runs through the council, charity and skip options if you want to compare.

Furniture Removal is registered with the Environment Agency as an upper tier waste carrier, licence CBDU526130. Pieces that are still sound are offered for reuse before anything else, and our guide on whether a charity will collect your furniture explains why some are refused. The rest goes to a licensed waste transfer station where wood, metal and glass are separated and recovered, and a waste transfer note is available on request.

How a furniture disposal job works

  1. Photograph everything that is going

One picture for one item, or a picture of each room for a clearance. Send them through the form on this page and tell us the floor.

  2. Receive one fixed price

However many pieces are in the photos, we send back a single figure that covers taking apart, carrying, loading and disposal.

  3. Fix a date

For a single item we aim for same-day or next-day where we can. For a house of furniture we agree a date and how many visits it takes.

  4. Pay once the van is loaded

Two people carry it all out, dismantling in the room where a piece will not fit, and you pay the quoted price when it is on the van.

Getting mirrors, flat-pack and whole rooms of furniture out

Each piece has a way out. A mirror is lifted off its hooks, the glass face covered with a blanket and the whole thing carried on edge so it cannot flex. A glass-topped coffee table is separated into top and base, with the glass carried flat between two people. Flat-pack furniture that was built in the room is dismantled there, cam locks turned and panels stacked, since lifting it whole usually pulls the joints apart on the first stair. A cot comes apart at the end panels. For a whole room, the crew works from the biggest piece to the smallest so the route stays clear, and in a flat the lift is sized up before the first piece moves. Anything too large for the stairs is taken apart rather than forced round the turn.

You do not need to dismantle anything yourself. Empty drawers and cupboards of anything you are keeping, take pictures off the wall along the stairs, and leave keys in any locked doors. For a clearance, a quick walk through the property marking what stays and what goes avoids a wrong piece leaving. Send a photo of each room rather than a list, because the photos show us what comes apart and what has to be carried whole. Tell us the floor, whether there is a lift and where the van can stop.

After collection, every piece that is still sound is offered for reuse first, and a surprising amount of mixed household furniture finds a second home that way. The rest is taken to a licensed waste transfer station, where solid wood and chipboard are sorted for timber recovery, metal frames and fittings go to scrap and mirror and table glass is kept apart for recycling. We can tell you where the furniture went and provide a waste transfer note on request.

Furniture disposal questions

Will you collect just one small item, like a mirror or a coffee table?

Yes. A single item is a normal job and it still gets two people and a van. Send a photo and we send a fixed price for that one piece.

Can you clear a whole house of furniture?

Yes, as long as what is going is furniture. Send a photo of each room and we price the whole clearance as one job, over one or more visits depending on how much there is.

Is there anything on this site you do not collect?

We have separate services for sofas, mattresses and appliances, so those are not collected here. Everything else that counts as furniture, from a cot to a whole house of it, is.

Do you take flat-pack furniture that is already falling apart?

Yes. The crew takes it back to panels in the room and carries the panels out. Anything already loose is bundled and taken with it.

How do you get a large mirror out without breaking it?

The glass is covered with a blanket and the mirror is carried on edge by two people, never flat. If it breaks anyway, we clear up and take the pieces.

I also have a wardrobe and a bed frame to go. Is that the same job?

Yes. Put them in the same set of photos and one price covers the whole visit. There is no need to book separate collections for each piece.
